I don’t know if all children love this as much as mine does, but my daughter absolutely loves to collect pieces of nature she finds on the ground during our walks. Recently, as we were walking, she proudly announced to me that she was collecting stuff for Father’s Day. I immediately thought to myself, “Oh boy…what is daddy going to do with sticks and leaves?” Then, the lightbulb turned on – a simple nature art project!
Let me introduce our Father’s Day Nature Craft! Use this idea for any holiday, or on a Monday, just because.
How To Make Your Simple Nature Art
***DISCLAIMER: Parental supervision is required with all projects. I hope you enjoy the quality time creating memories together!***
Collect an array of different colors and textures. Pink flower petals, green leaves, brown sticks. If you cannot find what you need in your neighborhood, try going to a park. Use different types of leaves to add some dimension. Collect everything your child likes, once you put together the art piece you can exclude anything that doesn’t fit. Find sticks that are not too thick so you will be able to break them apart if you plan to write something with them.
When you have all the pieces ready, grab an 8×10 canvas. If you don’t have a canvas, you can use cardstock or even cardboard. If your child is gluing down the pieces, use white glue. You may need to go over some pieces with hot glue depending on weight and size, but all of our pieces stayed down with white glue. I sprayed our art with a moisture-resistant sealant since it will hang in the garage near daddy’s workshop space.
Nature Lovers, Rejoice!
And that’s it! Super easy kid’s craft and my daughter could not have been more excited to give it to her daddy. She was also excited to show everyone who has been to our house since. Bonus points since this can be used as a teaching lesson without your kid even realizing it. Incorporate any topics you are working on such as patterns, color sorting, or writing their own name.
Happy crafting!
My son is always collecting nature’s bounty and this is the perfect craft to do with him!
Another nature lover! We seem to always have a collection of leaves and sticks somewhere on our porch. Currently, we have a rock pile in our “pot of gold” under the chalk rainbow. I hope your son has as much fun with this craft as our daughter did!
This is so fun! I homeschool my kids and we decided this last year to take a break, get outside, and purposefully collect things to create a nature mural. There were also a lot of non-nature items found on our neighborhood walk that made for a very unique piece of art! Such a cute idea for Father’s Day too!
My daughter would be ecstatic if we made a mural. What a fun project! There is so much to learn outside that you cannot get out of a book or worksheet.
I absolutely love this concept!! I have 9 grandchildren who tend to get bored when they come to visit. I will be referring back to your site next time they are here. Thanks so much!!
How wonderful to be surrounded by so much love, and I am sure tons of energy! I am glad I can be of some help to you, inspiring creative play with your loved ones!
Such a fun, open ended art project that allows children to demonstrate their creativity!
Thank you! I love seeing what her mind can come up with!
