Kids Snowman Name Craft

Kids Snowman Name Craft – A Fun Winter Lesson

During January we are focusing on our winter theme. We are learning about why it snows and how different animals react to the changing weather. This fun snowman craft focuses on many skills and is so easy to complete.

Benefits of the Snowman Name Craft

You may think the benefit of this craft is obvious – helps your child learn to write their name. There is actually more to it than that, though. There are multiple skills that this craft will help your child work on.

  • Name – The first and most obvious, this craft will help your child with spelling and writing their name. They will write each letter on its own circle.
  • Counting – Have your child count how many letters are in their name and count how many circle they will need to spell their name. Then, have them add one more circle so they have their snowman’s head. The letters will be written on the snowman’s body only.
  • Fine motor skills – Your child will need to cut all the pieces out of the paper and glue them together. This is great work to build the muscles in their hands which is needed as they learn to write.
  • Sequencing – Once your child is ready to glue their snowman to their background paper, they will need to understand the sequence in which the circles and other pieces will need to be glued down.
  • Creativity – Let your child’s imagination run free and create a masterpiece they are proud of.

Have you ever had a craft project not go exactly as planned? That happens to me in both my personal crafts, things I make for our crafting business, and the ones I come up with for our daughter. The snowman craft ended up being one of them. She loves rainbows, so she decided to color each circle of the snowman a different color, rather than leave him white. This made the name a little harder to read after the fact; however, I love that it is as bright and colorful as her personality. I would rather she learns how to express herself and learn about herself than try to restrict her to what I think makes good art. On top of that, she came up with the idea to use a white crayon to make snow on the blue paper, which I absolutely love.

What You Need for Your Snowman Name Craft

This craft is super simple with minimal materials needed.

How to Make the Snowman Name Craft

DISCLAIMER: Parental supervision is required with all projects. I hope you enjoy the quality time creating memories together!

Download and print the free printable found at the end of this post. Grab the rest of your materials and sit down with your child. Have them write the letters of their name on the circles, one letter per circle. Depending on their skill level, have them cut the pieces of the snowman out, or help them by cutting them yourself.

Once all of the pieces are cut out, they can begin gluing them onto the piece of construction paper. Once everything is glued down and dry, they can color the snowman and paper as they choose. Our daughter decided to take a white crayon on her blue construction paper – which represented snow falling against the sky.

Easy Craft with Important Skills Learned

As your child is working on their craft, be sure to talk with them about what they are doing. For example, ask them how many letters are in their name. Ask them what are the shapes of the snowman’s body and hat. Which pieces do they think should be glued down first and last. This will help your child reap all the benefits of this easy project.

When they are all finished, they will be left with a fun piece of art they hang on the fridge and admire. Our daughter was very excited to show hers off. Later that day, she saw me making my own snowman craft and asked if I was also making Frosty. She loved the fact that we were both making snowmen, and it is fun when we can connect on that level.

Happy Crafting!
