The 4th of July is such a great opportunity to introduce many new topics to your kids. From the history of the United States and national symbols to fireworks and traditions. There are so many fun and educational 4th of July kids activities and crafts for hands-on learning fun!
4th of July Traditions
The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, primarily due to the fireworks. There is something magical about fireworks as they melt away any stress and allow you to lose yourself in the moment. When I was little, my neighborhood gathered on the 4th for a block party. Everyone participated by making food and we hopped from driveway to driveway to gobble up the goodies. All the kids ran around together playing while the adults sat outside laughing. Right before it got dark we walked down to the beach since we only lived six blocks from the lake. We laid out our blankets on the sand and watched the fireworks as they glistened off the lake water. The 4th of July traditions we shared as a community are some of my strongest childhood memories.
While I no longer live near the lake, we certainly still go see fireworks. So many communities hold parades and other celebrations during the day that families can create traditions around. This holiday creates a powerful sense of community, which is wonderful to see and be a part of. Even if you do not like going out in the crowds, you can create memories at home. Have a small gathering with family and/or friends. Do a special activity every year as a family. The size of your tradition doesn’t matter, but those memories will stay with your child for a long time.
Our Favorite 4th of July Crafts and Activities
We start our activities and crafts at least one week prior to the 4th and they last at least one week after. Create a whole month’s curriculum based on the United States if your child is at that stage of learning. Below are links to our activities and crafts we have done, in one convenient place. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
Happy 4th of July!
